A factorial design was used to evaluate the effects of processing variables on the morphology and microstructural characteristics of titanium dioxide (TiO2) fibers produced by solution blow spinning (SBS). For this, tests were carried out varying TiO2 precursor content, feed rate, air pressure, polymer, and solvent. The TTIP concentration and feed rate statistically influenced the average diameters of the PVC/TiO2 system. The proper combination between polymer and solvent enables the obtaining of TiO2 nanofibers with similar morphologies either using hydrophilic or hydrophobic polymer, however, fiber diameter is influenced by type of system (polymer/solvent) used. Only the anatase crystalline phase was found in the fibers with the PVC polymer and THF solvent, while two crystalline phases were obtained in the fibers with PVP and alcohol, anatase and rutile, indicating that the variation of the polymer and solvent influences the crystalline phases of the TiO2 fibers studied.

The main objective of this work was to study the use of kaolin processing wastes in the production of steatite ceramics, emphasizing mechanical strength and dielectric properties. Steatite ceramics were prepared using mixtures of talc with fine and coarse particle kaolin wastes (7.5, 10 and 12.5 wt.%) sintered at different temperatures (1200, 1250 and 1300°C). After sintering, the specimens were submitted to mineralogical and microstructural characterization. Linear shrinkage, apparent porosity, flexural strength and dielectric properties were also evaluated. Results showed the formation of the crystalline phases protoenstatite and quartz for all produced ceramics. The results verified for porosity, mechanical strength and dielectric properties proved to be suitable for the application of this material in electrical insulation.

RESUMO A mineração de scheelita, localizada em Currais Novos, Rio Grande do Norte, tem gerado grandes volumes de resíduos sólidos que são destinados inadequadamente aos sistemas ambientais, causando impactos ambientais negativos ao município. Uma das alternativas encontradas para destinar adequadamente esses resíduos é o uso em argamassas de matriz cimentícia. No entanto, não há estudos consistentes sobre a viabilidade técnica quanto aos ataques químicos e à influência na sua durabilidade. Nesse contexto, este trabalho teve como objetivo verificar se as argamassas confeccionadas com resíduos da mineração de scheelita em substituição total ao agregado convencional são suscetíveis ao ataque por sulfato de sódio. A caracterização física, química e mineralógica do resíduo foi realizada fazendo uso das seguintes técnicas: análise granulométrica por peneiramento; determinação da massa unitária; obtenção do teor de material pulverulento; espectrometria de fluorescência de raios X, e difração de raios X. A investigação da ocorrência do ataque por sulfato de sódio foi avaliada pela variação dimensional dos corpos de prova quando imersos em solução de sulfato de sódio, de acordo com a metodologia da Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas NBR 13583. Os resultados do traço 1:3 indicaram que os agregados oriundos dos resíduos da mineração de scheelita apresentaram comportamento reativo ao ataque por sulfato de sódio (expansão maior que 0,06%), bem como houve aumento da resistência à compressão simples em 4,74%. Portanto, embora tenha sido constatado que os corpos de prova incorporados com resíduos de scheelita tenham sido reativos ao sulfato, observou-se que não foram capazes de deteriorar mecanicamente os corpos de prova.

ABSTRACT The scheelite mining, located in Currais Novos, Rio Grande do Norte, has generated large volumes of solid waste that are inadequately destined for environmental systems, causing negative environmental impacts to the municipality. One of the alternatives to destination of these residues is the use in cementitious matrix mortars. However, there are no consistent studies on the technical feasibility of chemical attacks and influence on their durability. In this context, this work aimed to verify whether mortars made with scheelite mining residues in total substitution to conventional aggregate are susceptible to attack by sodium sulfate. The physical, chemical, and mineralogical characterization of the residue was carried out using the following techniques: sieve particle size analysis; determination of unit mass; obtaining the content of powdery material; X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction. In the investigation of the occurrence of sodium sulfate attack was evaluated by the dimensional variation of the specimens when immersed in sodium sulfate solution, according to the methodology of Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas NBR 13583. The results of mixture 1:3 indicated that the aggregates from scheelite mining residues showed a reactive behavior to attack by sodium sulfate (expansion greater than 0.06%), as well as an increase in resistance to simple compression by 4.74%. Therefore, although it was found that specimens incorporated with scheelite residues were reactive to sulfate, it was observed that they were not able to mechanically deteriorate the specimens.

RESUMO Nas últimas décadas, a exploração da mina de Scheelita, localizado em Currais Novos/RN, gerou um grande volume de resíduos sólidos que são descartados inadequadamente no meio ambiente, causando impactos ambientais negativos ao município. Uma das alternativas encontradas para minimizar esse problema é o uso desses resíduos em argamassas de revestimento, técnica utilizada para promover a destinação adequada dos resíduos sólidos oriundos da indústria da mineração. Entretanto, não há estudos consistentes sobre a durabilidade aos ataques químicos neste tipo de argamassas alternativas. Nesse contexto, este trabalho tem como objetivo verificar se a cinza da casca de arroz calcinada a 800 ºC em substituição parcial ao cimento é capaz de mitigar o ataque químico por sulfato de sódio que ocorre em argamassas confeccionadas com resíduos de scheelita em substituição total ao agregado natural. Os resíduos de scheelita e a cinza da casca de arroz foram caracterizados por fluorescência de raios-x e difração de raios-x. O traço escolhido para realização da investigação foi 1:3, mais utilizado em chapisco, sendo o agregado convencional substituído totalmente pelo resíduo da scheelita e o cimento parcialmente pelo resíduo da cinza da casca de arroz calcinada a 800ºC. Após a definição do traço, moldou-se os corpos de prova de argamassa para submeter ao ataque químico conforme a norma ABNT NBR 13583. Os resultados indicaram que o teor de substituição do cimento pela cinza de casca de arroz calcinada a 800ºC não foi capaz de mitigar o ataque químico, pois a expansão das barras de argamassa ultrapassou o limite estabelecido (0,06%) pela norma da ASTM C 452. Entretanto, as expansões não foram suficientes para causar perda da resistência mecânica dos corpos de prova para o período de ataque.

ABSTRACT In the last decades, the exploration of the Scheelita mine, located in Currais Novos/RN, generated a large volume of solid waste that is improperly disposed of in the environment, causing negative environmental impacts to the municipality. One of the alternatives found to minimize this problem is the use of these residues in coating mortars, a technique used to promote the proper destination of solid wastes from the mining industry. However, there are no consistent studies on the durability of chemical attacks in this type of alternative mortar. In context, this work aims to verify if the rice husk ash calcined at 800 ºC in partial replacement to cement is able to mitigate the chemical attack by sodium sulfate that occurs in mortars made with scheelite residues in total replacement to the natural aggregate. Scheelite residues and rice husk ash were characterized by x-ray fluorescence and x-ray diffraction. The dosage chosen to carry out the investigation was 1:3, most used in base mortar, with the conventional aggregate replaced entirely by scheelite waste and cement partially by rice husk ash calcined at 800ºC. After defining the dosage, the mortar specimens were molded to be subjected to chemical attack in accordance with the ABNT NBR 13583 standard. The results indicated that the cement substitution content by rice husk ash calcined at 800 ºC was not to mitigate the chemical attack, since the expansion of the mortar bars exceeded the limit established (0.06%) by the ASTM C 452 standard. However, the expansions were not sufficient to cause loss of the mechanical resistance of the specimens for the attack period.

RESUMO Mulita é um material que tem recebido atenção especial devido às suas propriedades químicas, físicas e mecânicas, que estão correlacionadas com o método de síntese utilizado. O método sol-gel destaca-se frente aos outros métodos químicos devido à possibilidade de obtenção de materiais com elevado grau de pureza e baixas temperaturas de síntese. Sendo assim, este trabalho teve por objetivo a análise dos solventes água, álcool etílico, álcool isopropílico e tetrahidrofurano, na obtenção de mulita por meio da rota sol-gel. As amostras foram caracterizadas por difração de raios X (DRX), análise termogravimétrica e diferencial (TG/ATD), adsorção de nitrogênio, microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e microscopia eletrônica de transmissão (MET). Os resultados mostraram que a mulita foi sintetizada com todos os solventes, porém, o uso dos álcoois como solvente proporcionou a obtenção das amostras mais cristalinas, com as menores perdas de massa, com uma morfologia formada por agregados e partículas individualizadas.

ABSTRACT Mullite is a material that has received special attention due to its chemical, physical and mechanical properties, which are correlated with the synthesis method used. The sol-gel method stands out compared to other chemical methods due to the possibility of obtaining materials with a high degree of purity and low synthesis temperatures. Thus, this work aimed to analyze the solvents water, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol and tetrahydrofuran, in obtaining mullite using the sol-gel route. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric and differential analysis (TG/DTA), nitrogen adsorption (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (MET). The results showed that mullite was synthesized with all solvents, however, the use of alcohols as a solvent provided the obtaining of the most crystalline samples, with the lowest mass losses, with a morphology formed by aggregates and individualized particles.

RESUMO Este trabalho objetivou imobilizar metais pesados presentes nos resíduos de quartzito por meio da incorporação em argamassas em substituição total ao agregado natural. Dois tipos de resíduos foram utilizados: os resíduos de fragmentação das aparas (QS) e os do pó de serragem (QP). Os resíduos foram caracterizados por fluorescência de raios X, difração de raios X e ensaios de toxidade conforme metodologia da Norma Brasileira (NBR) 10005, da NBR 10006 e do Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) 1311. Então, foram analisadas composições de argamassas contendo cimento, cal e os resíduos (QS, QP) utilizando-se a técnica de delineamento de mistura, determinando os melhores traços, o melhor tipo de cura (imersa ou úmida) e, posteriormente, avaliando a resistência dos corpos de prova após cura. A caracterização do resíduo de quartzito revelou a presença de vários metais pesados e extratos lixiviados em contato com a água, classificando-o como resíduo de Classe I — Perigoso. Os resultados indicam que as composições determinadas foram capazes de imobilizar os metais pesados presentes nos resíduos de quartzitos, bem como resultou em argamassas com resistências mecânicas superiores a 2 MPa. Por fim, mostrou-se que essa técnica de solubilização e estabilização dos contaminantes presentes nos resíduos de quartzito é uma alternativa tecnologicamente viável e ambientalmente adequada para a destinação final desses resíduos.

ABSTRACT This work aims to immobilize heavy metals present in the quartzite residues by means of the incorporation in mortars in total substitution to the natural aggregate. Two types of residues were used: quartzite sand (QS) and powder (QP). The residues were characterized by x-ray fluorescence, x-ray diffraction, and toxicity tests according to the methodology of the NBR 10005, 10006 and Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) 1311. Then, compositions of mortar containing cement, lime and residues (QS, QP) were analyzed using technique of designing the mixture, determining the best mixture, the best type of cure (immersed or wet), and subsequently evaluated at resistance of the body of evidences after curing. The characterization of quartzite residue revealed the presence of multiple heavy metals and leached extracts in contact with the water, classifying it a Class I–Hazardous waste. Regarding the production of mortars, the results indicated that the compositions determined were able to immobilize the heavy metals present in the quartzite residues, as well as resulted in mortars with mechanical resistances higher than 2 MPa. Finally, it was shown that this technique of solubilization and stabilization of contaminants present in quartzite residues is a technologically viable and environmentally adequate alternative for the final destination of these residues.

RESUMO Resíduos de MDF (MediumDensityFiberboard) gerados nas indústrias de móveis de madeiras, geralmente, são depositados em locais inadequados, causando impactos ambientais. Este trabalho teve como objetivo desenvolver materiais porosos com a incorporação de resíduo de MDF (5, 10 e 15% de resíduo) em massas cerâmicas estruturais. As características mineralógicas, químicas e térmicas das massas foram analisadas. Corpos de prova (50mm x15mm x 5mm) foram conformados por prensagem uniaxial (13,3 MPa), os quais foram secos à 110 ºC/24 h e sinterizados à 750, 850 e 950 °C. Posteriormente, estes foram submetidos às seguintes caracterizações: absorção de água, densidade aparente, porosidade aparente e módulo de ruptura à flexão. As características mineralógicas e microestruturais, após queima, também foram analisadas. Os resultados evidenciaram que, até 10% do resíduo de MDF em forma de pó, poderá ser incorporado em massas cerâmicas estruturais para produção de materiais cerâmicos, como blocos porosos isolantes acústicos e térmicos. A porosidade aparente foi de 31,7%, a densidade aparente foi de 1,6 g/cm3 e o módulo de ruptura a flexão foi de 11,5 MPa.

ABSTRACT MDF industrial wastes (Medium Density Fiberboard) generated in the wood furniture industries, have been causing serious environmental impacts, since their improperly disponishment in the nature. In light of this, the purpose of this work is to develop new structural ceramic compositions, containing 5, 10 and 15% by mass of MDF waste. The mineralogical, chemical and thermal characteristics of the masses were analyzed. Test bodies (50mm x15mm x 5mm) were shaped by uniaxial press (13.3 MPa), which were dried at 110º C/24h and sintered at 750, 850 and 950 °C. Subsequently, these were subjected to the following characterizations: Water absorption, apparent density, apparent porosity and flexion rupture module. The mineralogical and microstructural characteristics, after firing, were also analyzed. The results showed that up to 10% of the residue of MDF in the form of powder could be incorporated into structural ceramic masses for the productions of ceramic materials, such as acoustic and thermal insulation porous bricks. The apparent porosity was 31.7 %, bulk density was 1.6 g/cm3, the flexural strength was 11.5 MPa.

RESUMO Os resíduos de rochas ornamentais, especialmente quartzito, causam grande impacto ambiental. Mais impulso tem sido dado à pesquisa sobre a reciclagem desses resíduos nos últimos anos, particularmente para uso como agregados em concreto e argamassa. No entanto, os estudos realizados até o momento não mencionam o comportamento da argamassa misturada com agregados provenientes de resíduos de rochas ornamentais quando submetidos a ataques químicos em ambientes ricos em sulfato. Assim, no presente trabalho buscou-se adicionar resíduos de quartzito à argamassa, verificando seu comportamento mecânico e sua durabilidade quando atacado por sulfato de sódio (Na2SO4). A durabilidade da argamassa mesclada com resíduos de quartzito sob ataque de sulfato foi avaliada pela variação dimensional dos corpos de prova quando imersos em solução de sulfato de sódio, de acordo com a metodologia da norma NBR 13583. Utilizaram-se as seguintes técnicas complementares: resistência à compressão simples, difração de raios X e análise termogravimétrica e diferencial. A partir dos ensaios verificou-se que as argamassas, após ataque de sulfato de sódio, apresentaram expansões dimensionais superiores a 0,06%, bem como aumento da resistência mecânica. Portanto, embora tenha sido constatado que os corpos de prova incorporados com resíduos de quartzito tenham sofrido ataques por sulfato, observou-se que não foi capaz de formar etringita secundária suficiente para deteriorar mecanicamente os corpos de prova submetidos ao ataque de sulfato de sódio.

ABSTRACT The residues of ornamental rocks, especially quartzite, cause great environmental impact. More impulse has been given to research on the recycling of these residues over the last years, particularly for use as aggregates in concrete and mortar. Nevertheless, the studies conducted so far do not mention the behavior of the mortar blended with aggregates coming from residues of ornamental rocks when under chemical attacks in sulfate-rich environment. Thus, in the present study it was sought to add quartzite residues to the mortar, verifying its mechanical behavior and its durability when attacked by sodium sulfate (Na2SO4). The durability of the mortar blended with quartzite residues under sulfate attack was evaluated by the dimensional variation of the test specimens when immersed in sodium sulfate solution, according to the methodology of the NBR 13583 standard. Were used the following complementary techniques: simple compressive strength, X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric and differential analysis. From the tests, it was verified that the mortars, after attack of sodium sulfate, presented dimensional expansions superior to 0.06%, as well as increased mechanical strength. Therefore, although it was found that the specimens incorporated with quartzite residues were attacked by sulfate, it was observed that it was not able to form sufficient secondary ettringite to mechanically damage the specimens submitted to the sodium sulfate attack.

The purpose of this work was to produce submicrometric hydroxyapatite (HA) and beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) biphasic fibers by means of solution blow spinning (SBS). This method was chosen due to its lower cost and higher production rate than those of electrospinning, which is normally employed in ceramic fiber production. The fibers thus obtained were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The in vitro bioactivity and cytotoxicity of the fibers were also investigated. The XRD patterns indicated the formation of biphasic HA/βTCP fibers. SEM analysis revealed an interconnected cylindrical morphology with the presence of beads. Fiber diameters in the submicrometric range varied from 374 to 451 nm. TGA results indicated that organic losses occurred solely below 600ºC. All the fibers were non-cytotoxic, presenting an inhibitory concentration (IC) of > IC50. All the samples successfully formed acicular apatite layers when immersed in SBF, indicating a high potential for in vivo bone bioactivity.

The properties of ceramic materials and microstructural changes are dependent on the raw materials from which they are made and on the manner in which they are processed, from the composition to the established thermal treatment, heating rate, and firing temperature. In this study, the influence of some processing parameters (formulation, maturation time, and firing temperature) on the physical-mechanical properties and microstructural aspects of ceramic pieces produced from natural aluminosilicates was investigated. Because Brazil does not have many quality ball clays reserves, bentonite was included as a plasticizing agent in this study. The formulations were submitted to maturation for a period of one to four weeks and their characteristics were determined to evaluate plasticity. Following this, the specimens were extruded and subjected to heat at temperatures of 1200, 1300, and 1400ºC. The physical-mechanical properties determined were: water absorption, linear retraction, and flexural strength. Statistical analysis was applied. The results showed that, for the analyzed masses, neither the maturation time nor the physical and mechanical properties analyzed had influence on plasticity. The firing temperature was the factor that generated the greatest alteration in results, increasing the mechanical resistance and altering the size and interlocking of the mullite needles.

RESUMO O descarte inapropriado de resíduos das indústrias da cerâmica vermelha é bastante elevado. Um dos maiores desafios da atualidade é a investigação de processos para a obtenção de materiais alternativos, que permitam o emprego destes resíduos na fabricação de novos materiais. Este trabalho tem como objetivo estudar composições de massas argilosas a partir da incorporação de resíduo da indústria de cerâmica vermelha para uso em membranas cerâmicas tubulares. Foram estabelecidas duas composições de massa cerâmica; composição A (50% de resíduo) e composição B (70% de resíduo). As análises granulométricas das massas cerâmicas apresentaram um tamanho médio de partículas que prever membranas na escala de microfiltração. Outro fator observado está relacionado ao aumento da quantidade de resíduo, o mesmo, favoreceu a diminuição da plasticidade na massa cerâmica. Observou-se também um aumento na porosidade aparente, provavelmente pelo possível crescimento do número de poros maiores, decorrentes da temperatura elevada de sinterização e do próprio aumento da quantidade de resíduo.

ABSTRACT The inappropriate residue disposal of red ceramic industry is very high. Nowadays, one of the major challenges is the investigation of processes to obtain alternative materials, enabling the use of these residues to manufacture new materials. This work's objective is to study clayey masses' compositions starting from the residue incorporation of the red ceramic industry to be used in tubular ceramic membranes. Two compositions of ceramic masses were established, composition A (50% of residue) and composition B (70% of residue). Granulometric analysis of the ceramic masses presented an average size of particles, what indicates membranes in the microfiltration scale. Another observed factor is related to the increase of residue amount, what favored a decrease in the ceramic mass' plasticity. A rise in the apparent porosity was also observed, probably because of a possible growing in the bigger pores numbers, due to the sintering high temperature and the elevation of residue quantity itself.

RESUMO O presente trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar dois novos depósitos de argilas (A e B) provenientes da região sul do estado do Amapá, visando estabelecer seus usos adequados como matérias-primas cerâmicas e promover o potencial da indústria cerâmica da região. Foram confeccionados corpos de prova por prensagem uniaxial, sendo aplicada uma prensagem em duas etapas de 13,4 MPa e 20 MPa, respectivamente. As amostras foram secas em uma estufa a 110ºC, e submetidas à queima em 850, 1000 e 1200ºC. Foram determinadas retração linear de queima, absorção de água, porosidade aparente e módulo de ruptura à flexão, bem como a evolução mineralógica após queima. Finalizando, avaliou-se a microestrutura das argilas sinterizadas a 1200ºC em um microscópio eletrônico de varredura. Os resultados evidenciaram que a argila A apresentou o melhor desempenho mecânico, tendo uma coloração vermelha e, portanto, tendo potencial para a indústria de cerâmica vermelha. Por outro lado, a argila B apresentou cor clara, devido ao baixo teor de óxido de ferro e, sendo assim, tendo potencial como matéria-prima refratária. No geral, uma argila é adequada para uso em cerâmica branca e outra para cerâmica vermelha.

ABSTRACT The objective of the present work was to characterize two new Clay deposits (A and B) from the south region of Amapá state, aiming to establish their adequate uses as ceramic raw materials and to promote the potential of the ceramic industry in the region. Were prepared specimens by uniaxial pressing, being applied a two phase pressing of 13,4 MPa and 20 MPa, respectively. The samples were dried in an oven at 110ºC, and submitted to burning at 850, 1000 and 1200ºC. Were determined linear firing shrinkage, water absorption, apparent porosity and modulus of flexural modulus of rupture, as well as mineralogical evolution after burning. Finishing, the microstructure of the sintered clay at 1200ºC was evaluated in a scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the clay A presented a better mechanical development, having a red coloration and, therefore, potential to the red ceramic industry. On the other hand, the clay B presented a light color, due to a low content of iron oxide and, therefore, having potential as refractory raw material. In general, one clay is suitable to be used in white ceramic and the other in red ceramic.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo a análise da viabilidade técnica na incorporação de Cinza de Casca de Arroz (CCA), Lodo de Estação de Tratamento de Água (LETA) e Cinza de Lenha (CL) para massa cerâmica utilizada para cerâmica de revestimento. A metodologia consistiu na análise das propriedades tecnológicas de várias composições. Foram confeccionados corpos-de-prova por prensagem, com composições de 0 a 50% de resíduo e 50 a 100% de argila. A queima foi feita em forno tipo mufla. As propriedades analisadas foram solubilidade e lixiviação (caracterização ambiental), absorção de água e módulo de ruptura a flexão. Como resultados, concluiu-se ser viável a utilização de até 25% dos resíduos nas temperaturas de 1000ºC, 1100ºC e 1150ºC.

This paper presents a technical feasibility analysis of the incorporation of Rice Husk Ash (RHA), Sludge from Water Treatment Station (SWTS) and Wood Ash (WA) in clay for the mass used in ceramic coating. The methodology involved analyzing the technological properties of various compositions. Samples were prepared for pressing, with compositions from 0 to 50% waste and 50 to 100% clay. The sintering was carried out in a muffle furnace. The properties studied were: solubility and leaching (environmental characterization), water absorption and rupture strength modulus. It was concluded that the best condition was the use of up to 25% of the residuals at temperatures of 1000 ºC, 1100 ºC and 1150 ºC.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi a purificação e organofilização em escala piloto de dois tipos de argila bentonita (cinza e verde) com tensoativo não iônico e a aplicação destas argilas em nanocompósitos com matriz de Polipropileno (PP). As argilas foram purificadas e em seguida organicamente modificadas com tensoativo não iônico tornando-se organofílicas, sendo denominadas de CPO e VPO respectivamente, e caracterizadas por Análise Granulométrica por Difração a Laser (AG), análise química por Fluorescência de Raios X (EDX), Difração de Raios X (DRX) e espectroscopia no infravermelho (IV). Os resultados de AG e EDX mostraram redução significativa do teor de areia e da sílica livre na forma de quartzo confirmando que houve a purificação da argila. Os resultados de DRX e IV mostraram que a organofilização em escala piloto das argilas foi realizada com sucesso. Os compósitos contendo 3pcr de argila foram caracterizados por DRX, Calorimetria exploratória diferencial (DSC), Termogravimetria (TG) e propriedades mecânicas. As análises por DRX indicaram formação de um nanocompósito com estrutura intercalada para o sistema PP/E-GMA/CPO, enquanto para o sistema PP/E-GMA/VPO formou-se um micro-compósito. Os resultados de DSC indicaram que as argilas não influenciaram na temperatura de fusão do PP. Os resultados de TG indicaram que as argilas CPO e VPO melhoraram a estabilidade térmica do PP. O sistema PP/E-GMA/CPO foi o que apresentou maior estabilidade térmica e maior módulo. As resistências à tração e ao impacto dos compósitos não apresentaram melhora significativa em relação ao PP puro. Mesmo assim, este comportamento é importante uma vez que as propriedades mecânicas do PP não foram deterioradas.

The aim of this work was the purification and organophilization on a pilot scale of two types of bentonite clay (green and grey) with nonionic surfactant, and their application in nanocomposites with a Polypropylene (PP) matrix. The bentonitic clays were purified and then organically modified with a non-ionic surfactant to become organophilic, being referred to as CPO and VPO respectively, and characterized by Particle Size Analysis by Laser Diffraction (AG), chemical analysis by X-Ray Fluorescence (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy (IR). The results of AG and EDX showed significant reduction in the amount of sand and free silica in the form of quartz confirming that the clay was purified. The results of XRD and IR showed that the organophilization on pilot scale of the clays was successful. The composites containing 3phr of clay were characterized by XRD, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG) and mechanical properties. XRD results indicated that for the PP/E-GMA/CPO system a nanocomposite with an intercalated structure was formed. As for the PP/E-GMA/VPO system, a micro-composite was obtained. DSC results indicated that CPO and VPO clays did not affect the melting temperature of PP. TG results indicated that the CPO and VPO clays improved the thermal stability of PP. PP/E-GMA/CPO system showed the highest thermal stability. The mechanical properties of PP were not significantly improved with the addition of clay and compatibilizer. However they were not deteriorated.

A preocupação com o meio ambiente vem motivando diversas pesquisas sobre o uso de materiais pozolânicos em substituição parcial ao cimento em concretos e argamassas, entretanto poucos são os dados sobre tal uso em concretos destinados à produção de elementos prémoldados, concreto este que geralmente é denominado concreto seco ou sem abatimento, devido à baixa umidade requerida no processo de moldagem e prensagem. Este trabalho consistiu em um estudo preliminar sobre o uso de metacaulim em concreto seco, sendo analisados cinco traços de concreto com cinco teores de substituição em cinco tempos de cura, objetivando determinar quais os percentuais de substituição mais adequados, ou seja, aqueles que promovessem aumento na resistência à compressão simples e redução na absorção de água por imersão. Devido ao grande número de variáveis envolvidas, foi utilizado o planejamento experimental estatístico Delineamento Composto Central Rotacional (DCCR), sendo os resultados analisados pela Metodologia de Superfície de Resposta (MSR). A análise da superfície de resposta mostrou que, para todos os traços, os melhores resultados dentro dos parâmetros estabelecidos poderão ser encontrados com o uso de metacaulim em percentuais de 10% a 20% de substituição da massa do cimento aos 49 dias de cura.

The concern about the environment has motivated several studies on the use of pozzolanic materials as a partial replacement for cement in concrete and mortar. However, there are few data about such a use in concrete designed for the production of precast elements, which is usually called dry or no-slump concrete, due to the low humidity required in the process of molding and pressing. This paper reports a preliminary study on the use of metakaolin in no-slump concrete, analyzing five concrete mixtures with five levels of substitution, in five curing times, aiming to determine the most appropriate percentages of replacement, i.e., those that promote increase in compressive strength and reduction in water absorption by immersion. Due to the large number of variables involved, the statistical experimental design named Central Composite Rotational Design (CCRD) was used, and the results were analyzed using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The response surface analysis showed that for all concrete mixtures, the best results within the parameters established can be found with the use of metakaolin in percentages of 10% at 20% of replacement in the cement mass at 49 days of curing.
